The Olympian's linking of the Capital Way bridge project and unmet mental health care needs is exactly right.
We have significant unmet mental health care needs in our community, a grim reality that grows with every day of the country’s economic crisis and absent health care system for people in need.
CHOICE Regional Health Network sponsors Olympia’s only free mental health clinic — the Mental Health Access Program. As a clinical director of MHAP, I oversee a program open to all uninsured and underinsured adults in Thurston and Mason counties and staffed by excellent, professional therapists volunteering their time.
I can only hope that publicity around the bridge project will draw attention to MHAP services. We want to help people in crisis feel supported, safe, and stay alive.
