When I was told a short while ago that one American soldier in Afghanistan for one year cost American taxpayers $1 million, I was totally shocked.
When I think of how many soldiers are in Afghanistan and how much money that represents, it’s mind-boggling.
Think about it, we could educate 20,000 children for a year on the money for one soldier. We could become solvent as a nation and state if we cut the war budget by 25 percent.
This war is getting us nowhere and benefiting only war profiteers who make enormous profits. I think we should take back our share of this money and use it for the benefit of our own citizens in Washington state – for education, health care, job opportunities and all the things we need but are told that we can’t afford.
We’re like a family whose parents gamble and drink away their salaries while their children go hungry and without proper medical care or adequate education.
This is morally wrong and abusive. Pay for what we need here at home first.
