On Feb. 28, I went into the Canvas Works, 525 Columbia St., Olympia, for about seven minutes. Because I knew I would be in the store no more than 15 minutes, I pushed the button to get the free time. I checked my watch, but did not check the meter. I assumed I had received the free 15 minutes. When I returned to my car, I found a ticket for an expired meter in the amount of $15.
I have paid the ticket “under protest.” No longer do I question the Olympia Downtown Association’s concern about parking for their customers. Needless to say, I will not be shopping in downtown Olympia anymore.
I hope the city parking employees in their new vehicles will check the meter at the corner of Sixth Avenue and Columbia Street to be sure that downtown shoppers receive their free 15 minutes when they push the button.
