I don't understand all the issues surrounding the medical marijuana debate but I have been wondering about something relating to it. If a patient can only get marijuana legally with a doctor's prescription, then that would make medical pot a prescription drug. Typically you would fill a prescription at the pharmacy. Why isn't medical grade pot sold at that same pharmacy? Why is it sold at a head shop?
Still, there is the question of where a pharmacy would get the Mary Jane. If it is imported from an exotic far off land like Tijuana, then we would know that some drug lord is charging a highly inflated price just so they can make money off our sick people.
Oh wait, that can’t be a problem because that’s exactly how all legal drugs are currently sold.
Perhaps the state could encourage a cottage industry where many small growers work at fulfilling the ever-increasing demand. Pretty much exactly like it is now only they would become legal pot farmers who would get the necessary permits, licenses and pay taxes.
Never miss a local story.
Can you say revenue enhancement?
Another thought: If Seattle can have a festival extolling the benefits of doing something illegal (Hempfest) then why can’t we have other such goings on? How about a festival for bank robbery or for hate crimes, etc.? Just think, every weekend or so a communitywide event extolling the virtues of one illegal activity or another.
Don’t ya think it might be time to grow up?
