My parents (Bob and Tunie Koeppen) will have earned 50 years of commitment in marriage on Friday, Oct. 3. Commitment to vows and promises made to one another on a fall day long ago.
Throughout this journey’s testing, the commitment has remained. Perhaps the greatest test came last year when my dad suffered a stroke. Though he was away from home for nearly five months, my mom was with him nearly every day. The love and care they offer one another has been tested heartily and has been proven true.
This kind of commitment is what many long for, what many think doesn’t exist anymore or maybe doesn’t even matter. There is a courage in such care and love, there is a sacrifice too. I think they would say it has been worth it. I’m grateful for their example along my life’s journey.
