Dear Thurston County Health Department: Where are you and what are you doing? I know you’re doing routine checks of all the food establishments throughout Thurston County. I know this because I see them in The Olympian. Really, I get better information about the cleanliness of restaurants from Yelp than I do from you.
I recently ate a place in town that made me sick for two days. I should have heeded the warning signs when walked into this place. The food preparer was also answering the phone and ringing up customers at the register. Not to worry, he was wearing the same gloves to do all those things. The first thing I did was think that I should alert the Thurston County Health Department, surely they would have a place on their website for me to submit my concerns. I was spectacularly wrong.
Turns out, only place I have to warn others is Yelp or other similar websites. Naturally, my next thought was to wonder how much tax money is wasted on your restaurant inspections when more useful information is provided for free on the internet.
When was the last time you looked at how you are regulating food establishments? Your red and blue violations are confusing at best. If you would like me to show you all the filthy places still operating with impunity, The Olympian has my number.
