That Thurston County is wrong to refuse environmental review is the most spot-on editorial I can recall. Karen Valenzuela believes by not cooperating with Lakeside that the asphalt plant will give up.
Such arrogance is not only alarming but costly. The same alarming attitude that built the jail we voted down twice. The same attitude that cost the taxpayers $12 million plus in the Maytown lawsuit? Yet with no repercussions. Karen Valenzuela is cutting Sheriff’s budget to pre-1992 levels eliminating six deputies. With only five or six deputies covering from Steamboat Island to Bucoda to Yelm per shift and taking on the added time for collision responsibilities the State Partol dropped on them, it’s a matter of time before an officer with no back-up is killed. Once again resulting in another $12 million plus lawsuit.
Bud Blake is a very positive replacement with much more actual administrative and budget and policy-making experience than Valenzuela yet has the correct vision to protect the environment and listen to the people. Many other Democrats and I will definitely vote for Bud Blake. It is time for her to go.
Never miss a local story.
