We need to stop the mismanagement In Thurston County and we can start that by voting out Karen Valenzuela and electing Bud Blake to the county commission.
I have seen several letters touting Valenzuela’s fiscal prudence but I have yet to see it. One example of her lack of fiscal judgment is the $45 million jail that has been sitting empty for years. After the voters rejected it, Valenzuela and her fellow commissioner built it anyway. She keeps saying it is close to opening but she has been saying that for years. I’ll believe it when I see it.
Another example is the Maytown lawsuit which the commission lost and is now on the hook for $12 million. By her own testimony, Valenzuela did not consider the impact of the lawsuit on the citizens of Thurston County. This tells me she doesn’t care about her constituents.
She is about to compound that by denying Lakeside Industries an environmental review (for which they are willing to pay) for a plant that recycles. The state and the Department of Ecology support Lakeside, but she will not consider it. She wants them to close and go away; taking 200 jobs with them.
The Olympian endorsed her with reservations, but what they are saying is that they choose incompetence over inexperience.
