Someone said, genuine leaders should possess moral integrity and professional competence. Commissioner Valenzuela has demonstrated ignorance and defiance of the fairness doctrine for which anyone with even a modest ethical compass understands and honors.
She has an extremist agenda and an intolerance for other perspectives. She’s got to go. Thurston County needs and deserves a change.
Retiring her will not change much because she and the other commissioners are fundamentally clones. What is sorely needed is someone to bring new perspectives to the table -- a non-politician with broad experience, education, and training. Variety on the Thurston County Commission will result in better management, administration, and policy decisions. A commission that serves all of us.
Bud Blake appears to be well-suited for that role. He has a bachelors degree, two masters degrees and an impressive military career where he rose from private to Colonel. He offers ample fiscal and management experience as well as training in ethics. We need some of that. His lack of local government experience is a plus. It’s time for a change.
