There is too much misinformation about I-594. No registries are created by I-594, no confiscations of guns, no infringement on the Second Amendment, no law against loaning your guns to someone for legal purposes like hunting or recreational shooting. Those are all fabrications created by the pro-gun lobbyists through the NRA.
It is true I-594 will not stop criminals from buying guns illegally. Laws do not stop criminals; laws punish criminals. Ask anyone who speeds or cheats on their taxes. I-594 is only about who can legally buy a gun in our state. If a court of law has determined you to be unfit to own a gun, then you will no longer be able to legally buy a gun at a gun show or over the internet.
I-594 requires a simple 20-minute background check by a licensed gun dealer. It’s the same background check done by Cabellas or at your local gun shop. I-594 extends that background check requirement to gun shows and private sales. I-594 does that and only that.
Do not let felons, mentally ill or domestic abusers legally buy a gun. Guns give you half of God’s power; use your guns responsibly.
