Regarding Charlie Hebdo: Gratuitous provocation of an armed, barbaric bully, who is not afraid of “martyrdom” in the process of killing innocents, will result in this sort of retaliatory violence. Let’s be even-minded and respectful of all beliefs. Free speech is a precious right but let us not use it frivolously.
There is responsibility mandated by the right of free expression. We must start acting like respectful adults rather than mischievous children profanely satirizing a prophet revered by 1.6 billion Muslims. I urge those who haven’t viewed the Charlie Hebdo cartoons depicting the prophet Muhammad to do so. “Insulting” is too urbane a word.
At the same time we must not hesitate to use all means possible to strike back at those jihadists who engage in terrorist attacks against us and our allies.
