I’m no Obama fan, but I don’t think we need to castigate him for not attending or sending a high ranking government official to Paris to participate in the recent anti-terrorism march. Granted, France is an ally (more or less), but so is Israel, and Netanyahu of Israel was asked by the French to stay away. When he attended, he was snubbed in public by President Hollande. I submit that Israel is as much our ally as France. The officials of other governments who attended did not participate in the march with the people, but used the occasion only as a photo op.
We were in France when the terrorists attacked Charlie Hebdo and for several days thereafter, and we closely followed events. The French police did a masterful job of eliminating the cowards who perpetrated the attack, but their president really never did say anything profound or decisive. It’s amazing how much their president has in common with ours.
