Leonard Pitt’s column in The Olympian on the obscene policy of asset forfeitures was very revealing. Google up policing for profit to see how it is now a national disgrace. The U.S. Attorney General has been trying to reign in asset forfeitures by state and local police, and eliminate the property seized as an off-budget source of funds. He is not getting much help, because the witch hunts are still going on.
The latest police raids have been predicated on suspicion of using the home’s wifi- for identity theft. If you have been targeted, don’t expect to see your stuff again. Don’t expect to find out who your accusers are or get your day in court. Just be thankful they didn’t tear your home up too bad.
Yes, this is tyranny, and completely ignores the Bill of Rights, but there is little you can do about it. We need to demilitarize the police, get rid of the task forces, and stop the witch hunts. Their mission should be limited to protecting and securing the people. They should not be policing for profit. The police are not the military and don’t represent the federal government in any way. Those of us who served and fought the nation’s wars wrote a blank check, and had no public employees union to fall back on for protection.
