Seeing the article about public records lawsuits in the Feb. 13 paper gives me the chance to comment about that practice that I have thought about for a long time. Just because the various state and local agencies have to provide certain public records, does not mean they should have to do it free of charge.
A while back a town in north King County (Gold Bar, I think) had to file bankruptcy because of public records requests. I believe they should be able to charge for the cost of providing those records (paper, time, etc). Costs the public has to pay for someone’s fantasies or to use to sue the agencies hoping to make a living.
