I do not understand why the Olympia City Council feels that the Harbor Patrol is not an essential part of our waterfront. The $30,000 it takes to run the program is just a “rounding number” in the city budget. Every time the City Council doesn’t want to be held to a hard decision they always find the money to hire a consulting firm to do their work. The council keeps wanting to take properly off the tax rolls for parks when they can’t maintain what they have but want to cut something like the all- volunteer Harbor Patrol. If the present City Council does not change it’s ways I feel that it’s time to replace all of the members as they come up for re-election. Look at what happened with the Thurston County Commissioners: 60 days after a new member was elected a four-year problem was solved.
