Kudos to the citizens of Olympia for their reaction to the recent tragic police shooting of two young men. I am relieved and gratified that most people seem willing to wait for the facts before publicly reacting.
In view of the fact that our anarchist population seems eager to demonstrate for or against anything that will put them in the spotlight for a moment and let them smash a few windows, and considering that we have a local college with students who consider themselves authorities on social justice, the environment, and just about anything else by the time they attain sophomore status, it is refreshing to see that common sense has prevailed.
As with all police shootings we question the officer’s actions — and we should. We should also consider the actions of young men in their twenties, both with criminal records, who haven’t outgrown skateboards and are out rolling around and stealing beer in the middle of the night. I look forward to seeing the facts released and, when we have a clue as to actual events, we can react sanely and appropriately to demand necessary change.
