The Olympian asks, “ How does a seemingly petty-crime incident escalate into the use of deadly force?” The answer is lack of respect for individuals and authority.
The real culprits may be parents who fail to instill respect for others, including police and teachers, in their children. Bullying will be a first indicator. Sociologists should investigate a correlation between lack of respect for authority and one-parent households. I applaud that Baltimore mother who took action against her child for rioting.
The so-called overreaction by police is initiated by individual resistance, not racial hatred. In every case of so-called police overreaction, police had reasons to stop a person and that person gave police reasons for raising the threat level. Individuals should be respectful and cooperative when stopped. Later file a lawsuit against the officer if you have been wronged.
Social and political protests are all-American when peaceful and respectful of other people’s safety, time and property. I have utter contempt for violent anarchists wearing masks. These punks demean the very concept of political and social protests. Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King did not hide their faces, but these cowards do.
If protests against police continue, expect a nation-wide bout of blue-flu; then law-abiding citizens can deal with thugs, thieves, anarchists, bullies and rioters alone. If you need help, call your rabble-rousing politicians or preachers for protection of life and property.
