It is time to reach a state budget compromise and go home. I appreciate the tremendous budget expertise of Sen. Andy Hill and Rep. Ross Hunter, top budget writers in the Washington state Senate and House. They may be laying out their political postures in a future governor race, but now is not the time.
Fully fund the state employee and teacher compensation packages. They are modest and justified.
Complete the K-12 requirements of the McCleary decision and drop the class size initiative. If new revenue was tied to it, it would never have passed.
Take care of our mental health population, they have waited long enough. Let the feds deal with the Affordable Health Care Act.
Stay the course on higher education, the homeless, and our retirees, you did a lot for them in 2013. Keep a small reserve and no new taxes. Future revenues will grow.
