St. Louis Blues forward Keith Tkachuk is retiring after the season and will play his final home game Friday. A five-time All-Star and four-time U.S. Olympian, the 38-year-old Tkachuk has 1,063 points on 538 goals and 525 assists and 2,219 penalty minutes.
Tkachuk has 13 goals and 17 assists in 66 games this season.
No one cause in luge death
The secretary general of luge’s governing body says an official investigation into the death of Nodar Kumaritashvili at the Vancouver Olympics will find no single cause for his fatal accident.

Svein Romstad told The Associated Press that the International Luge Federation report is set to describe the 21-year-old Georgian’s crash at 90 mph on Whistler’s sliding track as something that could not have been foreseen. He said the report will show the crash was caused by “an amalgamation of a lot of different things.”
Luge officials will deliver the report to International Olympic Committee.
U.S. speed coach Alex Hoedlmoser has been hired to take over the American women’s Alpine program after Jim Tracy stepped down last week. The U.S. Ski Team announced the move in a release Wednesday. The former World Cup racer has been on the U.S. coaching staff since 1998. … Chris Rudge is stepping down as chief executive officer and secretary general of the Canadian Olympic Committee.
A judge cleared the way for ex-Ohio State football star Maurice Clarett to move to a smaller detention facility in Columbus, Ohio, which could lead to his release within a few months. Clarett has served 31/2 years in prison for aggravated robbery and carrying a concealed weapon. … Bradley University students are asking school administrators to come up with a new mascot. The school’s nickname is the Braves, but the school hasn’t had an official mascot in almost 20 years. … Top-seeded Miami of Ohio (29-7-7) will meet fourth-seeded Boston College (27-10-3) in one semifinal of the Frozen Four NCAA hockey tournament tonight at Ford Field in Detroit. In the first game, Rochester Institute of Technology (28-11-1), seeded 15th in the 16-team field, faces third-seed Wisconsin (27-10-4). The winners play on Saturday. … Lance Armstrong pulled out of the second stage of Circuit de la Sarthe in France because of a stomach illness and Tiago Machado of Portugal won the time trial on Wednesday.
