The 2011 Olympic Peninsula Salmon Derby, formerly the Discovery Bay Salmon Derby, is scheduled for Feb. 19-21.
The hatchery blackmouth derby features fishing in an area covering 500 square miles and five weigh stations, as well as a $10,000 top prize.
The derby, part of the Northwest Marine Trade Association’s Northwest Salmon Derby Series, is hosted by the Gardiner Salmon Derby Association.
The event’s five launch ramps are at Freshwater Bay, Port Angeles, Sequim, Gardiner and Port Townsend. The awards ceremony will be held Feb. 21 at the Gardiner Boat Ramp.
Tickets for the event cost $40 for one day or all three days and can be found at many area merchants. You can buy tickets online or find a list of merchants setting tickets at www. SwainsInc.com. Tickets will be available at the five launch ramps but only on Feb. 19 and for as long as they last. For more information and event rules, visit www.GardinerSalmon Derby.org.
