Steve Wondzell will give a program titled “Ambles in the Sierra: Hiking portions of the Sierra High Route and the John Muir Trail's during Wednesday's gathering of the Olympia Mountaineers.
Wondzell will talk about the contrasting mountain experiences these parallel trails offer to hikers.
The Sierra High Route is packed with solitude, mountain silence, difficult high-elevation passes and talus, Wondzell said.
In contrast, the John Muir Trail is full of horse and mule issues, and busy with through hikers.
The evening begins at 6 with a potluck meal and social hour, followed by the presentation at 7 p.m.
It is open to all members and anyone interested in learning more about the Mountaineers is welcome.
This is an opportunity to meet other Mountaineers, share ideas, learn about others’ adventures and what programs the Olympia branch offers.
The program will be at the Olympia Center, Rooms 101-102, 222 Columbia St. N.W., Olympia. For information, go to olympiamountaineers.org.
