Climbing the Carstensz Pyramid will be the focus of Wednesday’s outdoor adventure presentation at a gathering of the Olympia Mountaineers.
Julie Smith will give the presentation on the 16,023-foot peak in Indonesia. Considered the tallest peak in Oceania, the pyramid also is called the technically hardest of the Seven Summits – the highest points on each continent.
Smith will talk about her adventures in in the West Papua jungle, hiking, rock climbing, meeting the Moni Tribe people, plus training and preparation for the trip.
The evening begins with a potluck dinner at 6 p.m., followed by the program at 7. The meeting will be in Rooms 101-102 at The Olympia Center, 222 Columbia St. N.W., Olympia.
Participants are asked to bring a dish to share, plus their own plate and flatware.
