San Juan Fourth of July Festivities
What: There is plenty to do in the San Juan Islands over the the holiday weekend. Events with fireworks are planned for Lopez, Orcas and San Juan islands. On Lopez Island, a parade and community barbeque are scheduled for Monday. That night the fireworks show starts at 10:30 on Fisherman Bay.
Orcas Island has its Historical Days Celebration and multiple food-themed events on Friday (July 2). Fun runs are planned for Friday and Monday, and fireworks shows are scheduled for Sunday (10 p.m. at Deer Harbor) and Monday (9 p.m. in Eastsound).
On San Juan Island, enjoy Independence Day fun runs, log-rolling competitions and a 10:30 p.m. fireworks show at Roche Harbor. Friday Harbor will be the site of the Pig War Picnic, complete with a pie-eating contest and a 10 p.m. fireworks show.

What to do: In additions to fun runs, fireworks, parades and other festivities, there is no shortage of recreational activities on the island. The area is well-known for its boating, hiking and biking opportunities.
Also: Reservations for the ferry from Anacortes to the islands can be made at wsdot.wa.gov/ferries.
Cost: Most events are free. Entry to the Pig War Picnic is $5.
