Razor clammers thought the season was over -- but they might get one more day of digging on three coastal beaches during the morning of May 24.
The state Department of Fish and Wildlife will open Twin Harbors, Copalis and Mocrocks for a dig during the morning tide -- if tests show that the clams are safe to eat.
Long Beach and Kalaloch will not open for this dig.
The best clam digging starts about an hour before low tide. Low tide on May 24 is at 9:58 a.m.
Dan Ayres, Fish and Wildlife's coastal shellfish manager, said in a press release that the dig is possible because there are enough clams remaining in the total allowable catch for those beaches.
Diggers must keep the first 15 clams they dig.
All clammers must have a 2008-09 license to dig razor clams on any beach. A license is required for anyone age 15 or older. Licenses can be purchased at http://fishhunt.dfw.wa.gov, by telephone at 1-866-246-9453 or at more than 600 license vendors throughout the state. A list of vendors is available at http://wdfw.wa.gov/lic/vendors/vendors.htm
