Here’s a reminder: Speakers on both sides of the assisted suicide debate are scheduled to appear Sunday at the First Christian Church’s weekly elections forum to talk about Initiative 1000.
The discussion will feature proponent Mary Watson and opponent Russell Jordan. I-1000 would let a patient certified by two physicians as having less than six months to live to then obtain a lawful, lethal prescription that would be self-administered.
The forums are scheduled through Oct. 26, starting each Sunday at 9:30 a.m. and running an hour, according to Don Carlson, a former lawmaker who organizes and moderates the sessions in the church library, 701 Franklin St. S.E.
Also coming up: Oct. 12 — Initiative 1029, the measure requiring licensing and greater training for long-term care workers.
Oct. 19 — Candidates for Thurston County commissioner district 1, including Cathy Wolfe, the Democratic incumbent, and Judy Wilson, a Republican.
Oct. 26 — Candidates for Thurston County commissioner district 2, including Sandra Romero, Democrat, and Robin Edmondson, Republican.
