Black Hills earned its fifth trophy in 10 trips to state, taking the third-place trophy defeating Fife, 3-2, late Saturday night.
"It’s the best we’ve ever done in the history of Black Hills High School,” senior Rachel Warick said. "This feels really good."
2A all-tournament player Kailah Lenz had 21 kills, 13 digs and two blocks in the Wolves' 25-27, 25-20, 22-25, 25-16, 15-10 win over the Trojans, who got sixth place. Hillary Lutz had 14 kills, Rachel Warick had 15 kills, and Taylor Aschenbrenner had 50 assists. Whitney Martin 16 digs.
Timberline and Capital lost loser-out matches earlier Saturday. Timberline middle hitter Alyssa Kellar went down with a serious knee injury -- possible lateral cruciate ligament damage, according to Timberline coach Krista Manke -- in the team's 3-1 loss to Everett. Capital took Seattle Prep to five sets, but weren't able to pull out the win.
