Washington residents and veteran organizations were invited to a special wreath laying July 24 to pay tribute to the Korean War veterans at the Korean War Veterans Memorial, East Capitol Campus in Olympia.

The Korean War lasted from June 25, 1950, until a cease-fire (truce) was signed on July 27, 1953. To this day, the cease-fire has remained in place, and prosperity has flourished for South Korea. More than 500 Washington residents lost their lives while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces during this conflict.

I have represented the Seattle Nisei Veterans Committee (NVC) and with several other veteran organizations gathered in Olympia to remember the 57th anniversary of the cease-fire. This event marked the 17th anniversary of the dedication of the Washington State Korean War Veterans Memorial. Organizations and individuals that participated had brought flowers or wreaths to place during the ceremony.

    posted 01:57 AM 07/31

It is about that time again. The 2010 census is approaching soon. The census information is collected by the United States Census Bureau every 10 years. This is mandated in the United States Constitution, and the census count is taken by everyone that resides in the United States and Washington, D.C., the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas, and American Samoa. This count includes people of all ages, races and ethnic group, U.S. citizens and noncitizens.
