Bob Blackburn, the Seattle SuperSonics' first broadcaster and for 20 years the lone voice of Sonics history, died Friday after a lengthy illness, his wife Pat told Associated Press. He was 85.
Thirty years ago today, the SuperSonics became the first and only Seattle team to win a world championship in a major sport. They clinched their title in a Landover, Md., arena, since demolished, known as the Capital Centre, against a team that used to be called, in that pre-politically correct era, the Bullets.
PORTLAND — Green and gold Sonics jerseys were sprinkled amongst the black and red Portland Trail Blazers garb Wednesday night as the Oklahoma City Thunder paid a visit and was overwhelmed by the Blazers, 106-92.
I miss the Sonics. There, I said it. I know many of you have tried to maintain a stoic front, an air of indifference while Seattle's NBA team was squired away to some godforsaken outpost.
