Oregon has been accredited to certify farms under the National Organic Program, joining Washington and Idaho.
Organic farming represents a small but growing sector of the agricultural production in Oregon, increasing from just under $10 million in 2002 to $88 million in 2007, according to the latest U.S. Census of Agriculture.
State figures show more than 92,000 acres in Oregon are in organic production. Oregon is the 16th state accredited for the national program.
