Grays Harbor Transit to raise fares, reduce trips

Grays Harbor Transit will increase the fare for single rides to and from Olympia and Centralia to $3 effective Nov. 16, doubling the current price of $1.50.

The agency also will reduce the frequency of buses it runs on all but a handful of routes, according to The Daily World of Aberdeen. It’s changing its fares for the first time since 1998 and the second time in its 34-year history. Fare increases also will affect paratransit and Dial-A-Ride services the Transit Authority operates.

The Transit Authority has experienced an unprecedented drop in sales-tax revenue and has had to spend about $130,000 each month out of its reserves, officials said.

The cuts mean nine of the Transit service’s 53 full-time drivers will lose their full-time status and will work on-call.
