Intercity Transit has been rebuilding the system since taxpayers approved an increase in South Sound sales taxes collected inside the area in which it operates. Service enhancements this month restore transit service to the same levels as eight years ago, when the agency made cuts when car tab Initiative 695 took effect.
Record ridership
Dennis Bloom, planning manager for IT, said records are being set each month because of a combination of high fuel prices, increased concern regarding global warming and improved transit service. Ridership has increased 42 percent in five years.
