Hear lobbyist Higley speak at luncheon
LACEY — Retired evangelical lobbyist Bob Higley will be the featured speaker Tuesday at the Thurston County Women's Republican Club luncheon.
The free event will be at 11:30 a.m. at Hawks Prairie Restaurant, 8306 Quinault Drive N.E., just off Marvin Road.

Veterans feature activist Bourgeois
OLYMPIA — The local Veterans for Peace chapter will host Central American political activist Father Roy Bourgeois in three speaking events Thursday.
Bourgeois co-founded the School of the Americas Watch to monitor the Army's Fort Benning training facility and its alleged links to human-rights abuses in Central America during the 1980s.
Bourgeois is scheduled to speak at:
• South Puget Sound Community College: noon in Building 26, Room 105.
• The Evergreen State College: 2 p.m. in Seminar II Room B1105.
• Traditions Cafe in downtown Olympia at 7 p.m.

Romero to highlight issues in series
LACEY — Sandra Romero plans a series of "talks" with the public about issues she is tackling with her Democratic campaign for Thurston County commissioner, starting with one Tuesday at a Lacey coffeehouse.
The first topic is taxes, and the event runs from 5 to 6 p.m. at Olympic Crest Coffee Roasters, 4211 Pacific Ave. S.E., her campaign said. Romero said she wants to stimulate a grassroots discussion about voter priorities, what services are essential and how they should be prioritized.
Other talks are planned May 13 about trails, June 10 about trash, July 8 about traffic and Aug. 12 about voting.
Romero faces fellow Democrat Jon Halvorson in the Aug. 19 primary.

Peace group to talk of'Restoring America'
LACEY — Glen Anderson, a founder of the Olympia chapter of the Fellowship of Reconciliation, will speaks about "Restoring America" on Tuesday at the Democratic Study Group in Panorama.
Anderson founded the local peace-championing group in 1976.
The event will be at 1:30 p.m. in the retirement center's Quinault auditorium, 1835 Circle Lane S.E., Lacey. It is open to people of any political affiliation. For more information, call Bob Walker at 360-438-5973.
