Two judgeship candidates plan events

OLYMPIA — Two candidates for Superior Court judge have fundraisers this week:

Carol Murphy has an event from 5 to 6:30 tonight at the home of Curt and Margie Smitch, 1617 East Bay Drive, Olympia. A donation of $25 is suggested. For more details, go to www.carolmurphyforjudge.com or call 360-9223-2098 or 360-357-6238.

Charles Williams has a spaghetti feed and pasta bake at 5 p.m. Thursday at Schmidt House, 330 Schmidt Place S.W., Tumwater. For more information, go to www.williams4judge.org.

Presidential hopefuls added to state ballot

State elections officials certified two more minor party presidential candidates for the Nov. 4 ballot Monday:

James E. Harris, Socialist Workers Party, and running mate Alyson Kennedy.

Gloria La Riva, Party for Socialism & Liberation, and running mate Eugene Puryear.

Approved last week were Independent Ralph Nader and running mate Matt Gonzalez.

At least one other minor party appears to be collecting signatures to qualify a candidate, according to the Secretary of State's Office.

Democrats plan barbecue fundraiser

Thurston County Democrats plan a barbecue fundraiser July 23 to raise money for 10 delegates and alternates attending the national Democratic convention in Denver next month.

Sponsors are state Sen. Karen Fraser and Reps. Sam Hunt and Brendan Williams. It runs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Tumwater Falls Park. Food and beverages are provided. For details, go to www.ld22.org.

Among the Sen. Barack Obama delegates is James Yee, the former Army chaplain jailed for espionage charges that later were dropped. He is expected to sell copies of his book, "For God and Country: Faith and Patriotism Under Fire."

Candidate reports 8 judge endorsements

SHELTON — Richard Adamson reports that eight Kitsap County Superior Court judges unanimously endorsed his bid for Mason County Superior Court.

Retiring Thurston Superior Court Judge Richard Strophy also supports his campaign, Adamson reports.
