Safety fair features robot, SWAT team
Daisy, the Washington State Patrol's bomb squad robot, and her partner, Sgt. Neil Schuster, will be zipping around the Capitol Campus during the Public Employees Safety Awareness and Preparedness Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday.
Daisy will be one of nearly 50 safety-related vendors and demonstrations at the fair at the East Capitol Campus Plaza.
Other highlights include a Sept. 11, 2001, attacks commemoration featuring a small section of the Twin Towers, State Patrol SWAT team members and a building rappel demonstration.
Four injured in head-on collision on U.S. 12
Four people were hurt in a head-on collision on U.S. Highway 12 near Oakville on Monday.
Karl H. Hallerbach, 73, of Ocean Shores drove his 2006 Jeep Liberty eastbound across the center line, colliding with a 2006 Dodge Ram pickup driven by Brian J. Hanson, 36, of Lacey, a Washington State Patrol report says.
Hallerbach received broken arms and internal injuries and was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Hanson had a head injury and was taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia.
A third vehicle, a 2003 Hyundai Elantra driven by John Edgar West, 82, of Montesano, sideswiped the Jeep. West and his passenger, Roberta K. West, 80, of Montesano, complained of neck and back pain and were taken to Providence Centralia Hospital
Hallerbach will be charged with negligent driving, the report states.
Ceremony will observe anniversary of attacks
The Fort Lewis military community will observe the seventh anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks with a flag-raising ceremony at 6:30 a.m. in front of the I Corps Headquarters and a Patriot Day Remembrance Service at noon in the main post chapel.
The flag-raising will include an invocation, color guard and remarks by Brig. Gen. Jeff Mathis.
The public must register at the visitor center off Interstate 5's Exit 120 and have vehicle registration, driver's license, proof of insurance and photo identification for all passengers older than 16.

Motorcyclist dies several weeks after crash
A California man died Monday from injuries sustained in a crash one mile south of Shelton on Aug. 15.
The man, Larry Robert Bunda, 57, of Ramona, Calif., died at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
He did not have a motorcycle endorsement, but he was riding a 2008 Harley-Davidson, a Washington State Patrol report says.
The report says Bunda was northbound on state Route 3 when he crossed the center line and collided with a southbound vehicle driven by Joe Alexander Flores, 29, of Shelton, who was driving a 1996 Ford Mustang. Flores was taken to Mason General Hospital in Shelton.
