Pilot hurt in plane crash

An Olympia man remained in serious condition at a Seattle hospital Monday after his single-engine plane crashed into a barn near Napavine on Sunday afternoon.

The Lewis County Sheriff's Office identified the man as Barry L. Yoseph, 52. A spokeswoman at Harborview Medical Center said Yoseph remained in the intensive care unit.

The Piper PA-18 had taken off from a private airfield and was conducting maneuvers when it ran into trouble. The plane banked hard and then struck a storage building before crashing into the side of a barn at around 4:45 p.m., said Mike Fergus, Federal Aviation Administration regional spokesman.

The crash occurred on the 200 block of Forest-Napavine Road East. A property owner declined comment.

The plane was built in 1958, and records show Yoseph had kept up on all of its maintenance, Fergus said. Yoseph was airlifted to Harborview.

The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board continue to investigate.
