Tumwater

Gunshots hit parked State Patrol vehicles

Two Washington State Patrol vehicles parked at a Starbucks in Tumwater were hit with small-caliber bullets about 8 p.m. Wednesday, police said.

Bullets shattered two windows in one vehicle and dented the exterior of the other.

Neither vehicle was occupied, Tumwater police reported Thursday.

Police are concerned because the shooting took place in a busy public area and a main thoroughfare in the 5300 block of Capitol Boulevard.

Tumwater police say it is unknown whether the vehicles were specifically targeted.

Anyone with information is asked to call Tumwater police at 360-754-4200 or Thurston County Crime Stoppers at 360-493-2222.

Grays Harbor County

Partially submerged fishing boat monitored

The Coast Guard is monitoring a partially submerged fishing boat at the mouth of Grays Harbor.

The Westport boat "Miss Michelle" took on water Monday after an apparent collision.

A salvage crew is working on the vessel. Oil-containment booms still are deployed.

Lewis County

Deputy uses Taser on suspect in equipment theft

A Lewis County sheriff's deputy used his Taser to arrest an armed man who was wanted on suspicion of stealing Lewis County search and rescue equipment from a storage stop in Onalaska in July, the sheriff's department said.

According to a news release:

Michael Lee Draper, 30, was booked Thursday into the Lewis County Jail on suspicion of burglary, theft and other felony charges. When a deputy saw Draper in a vehicle Thursday afternoon, Draper fled into the woods. The deputy chased him across the Newaukum River. During a struggle, the deputy used his Taser on Draper.

Deputies have sought Draper since late July, after equipment belonging to Lewis County Search and Rescue was recovered from a residence in the 100 block of Davis Drive. Two people were arrested on suspicion of involvement with the thefts at that address July 24.
