The checks took place Sept. 4 and 20 with the help of an undercover operative who was younger than 21.

Of the 30 grocery, convenience and liquor stores checked, three sold alcohol to the operative. Of the 19 bars and taverns checked, one sold alcohol to the operative. The compliance rate was 92 percent, the third time this year the rate has been 92 percent or higher.

Each business employee who made an illegal sale received a criminal citation, and all of the businesses that sold to the operatives will be referred to the Washington State Liquor Control Board for further investigation.

Businesses that did not sell to the operative received a certificate of appreciation from the police department.
