Local debate watch party at The Washington Center

What: Residents can watch the final presidential debate between Sens. John McCain and Barack Obama on a big screen, then share their thoughts about the results.

Where: The Washington Center for the Performing Arts, 512 Washington St. S.E.

When: 6 to 7:30 p.m. today. Doors will open at 5 p.m. for the free public event.

Co-sponsors: League of Women Voters of Thurston County, The Olympian and the city of Olympia. Olympian publisher John Winn Miller will lead the discussion.

About the debate: It will be broken into nine segments of nine minutes each. CBS Washington bureau chief Bob Schieffer will introduce a topic and allow each candidate two minutes to comment. The moderator will facilitate an open discussion of the topic for the remaining five minutes. At the end of the debate, each candidate will have a 90-second closing statement.
