Mason County

Former transient sex offender now has address

The Mason County Sheriff's Office is notifying the public that Level 3 sex offender Thomas Gibson, who previously was registered as a transient with the county, now is considered to have a permanent address.

Gibson has been living in a tent in the 400 block of East D Street in Shelton.

Level 3 sex offenders are considered at the highest risk to reoffend.

According to the Mason County Sheriff's Office:

Gibson, 42, pleaded guilty in 1991 to attempted first-degree child molestation and indecent exposure. The conviction stems from Gibson, at 23, sexually assaulting an 8-year-old boy. The indecent-exposure conviction stems from Gibson exposing himself to an adult female neighbor and her children. In 1993, Gibson pleaded guilty to communication with a minor for immoral purposes. This conviction stems from Gibson sexually assaulting a 7-year-old boy.

Lewis County

Jury-duty scam is targeting the elderly

The Lewis County Sheriff's Office is investigating a scam targeting elderly residents.

Two residents report falling victim to the scam, in which they received a phone call from a man identifying himself as Deputy Wilson informing them that they had missed jury duty and owed $25 for "jury fees." The suspect threatened the victims with jail time if they didn't provide a credit card number to pay the fees. Neither victim had missed jury duty.

Lewis County court clerk Kathy Brack wrote in a news release, "Lewis County does not impose jury fees nor do we make phone calls to collect money."
