Olympia

Artist supply store's closing prompts sale

Olympia Art & Frame Opas Inc., 1822 Harrison Ave. N.W., is closing and having an "emergency quitting business sale" that continues today and ends Wednesday, according to a flyer signed by owner Gwen Sowray and distributed to customers at the store.

The sale started Friday and ends Wednesday, although the business plans a more public announcement of its sale after that, according to the flyer.

Maintenance to halt service at library

All of the Olympia Timberland Regional Library will be closed Wednesday through Sunday, including the library's meeting room, where staff members have been providing basic borrower services since the rest of the library closed in mid-October for maintenance and remodeling.

During the four-day closure, workers and library staff members will paint and carpet the meeting room and hallways; paint the restrooms; and unpack and shelve books, magazines, CDs, movies and other library materials. The remodeled library will reopen Dec. 15, according to the library.

Thurston County

Commission to talk about tree removals

The Thurston County Commission will have a public hearing Dec. 8 about changes in regulations that cover tree removal in wetlands.

A proposed amendment would limit tree cutting to trees that pose a danger or might be sick or unsound.

The hearing will be at 6 p.m. at the Thurston County Courthouse, 2000 Lakeridge Drive S.W., Olympia. Written comments can be sent to Jeremy Davis at that address.

Lacey

Opening ceremony for eye care center

Rouse EyeCARE, 8160 Freedom Lane N.E., has scheduled a grand opening from 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 9, according to a Lacey Chamber of Commerce news release. Lacey Mayor Graeme Sackrison is set to take part in a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 6 p.m., the news release states.

School district plans meeting for today

The North Thurston Public Schools board will have a regular board meeting at 7 p.m. today at the district office, 305 College St. N.E., Lacey.

Among the topics to be discussed are on-time graduation and board member assignments for the upcoming calendar year. The meeting will be preceded by a performance of the Woodland Elementary Sixth Grade Orchestra at 6:45 p.m.
