Sentence issued in cruelty case

A judge sentenced a Lacey woman to time served and ordered that she pay about $12,700 based on her earlier conviction for 22 counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty after 22 Persian cats were seized from her home in June.

Judith Lawson, 64, received credit for eight days of jail time served. The rest of her jail time was suspended during her sentencing hearing Monday, but she could face jail time if she violates the terms of her probation, said her attorney, James Dixon. Lawson is not allowed to own cats.

The Persian cats were found in cages in Lawson's home. They were malnourished, dehydrated, and heavily matted from neglect and living in feces.

One cat died after being taken by Animal Services, but the rest are doing well in adoptive homes, according to Animal Services.

9-year-old's window shattered by bullet

A bullet was fired through the bedroom window of a 9-year-old girl Saturday night, peppering her with glass.

The girl was examined at home by Lacey fire department personnel and did not require medical care, according to Thurston County Sheriff Lt. Chris Mealy.

The incident in the 8300 block of 49th Loop Southeast was at 11:40 p.m. The single bullet entered the bedroom window, went through the bedroom wall and lodged in a wall above a bathroom door.
