Cody Robert-Roy Miller: Wishes that college would be affordable for all

THE OLYMPIAN | • Published July 05, 2009

Age: 19

School: River Ridge High School

Hometown: Olympia

Parents: Charlie and Jody Miller, the best parents on the planet!

Best personal achievement: I can only narrow it down to three things: getting a 4.0 cumulative grade point average in high school, being an All-Conference defensive back in football, and being in the starting line-up for the baseball team.

How I spend my time: Studying, playing sports, and hanging out with friends and family.

Favorite subjects: Leadership, college prep writing, and calculus.

Favorite movies: “The Sandlot” and “Goonies”

Favorite book: “Holes” by Louis Sachar

Dream job: An astronaut – especially if I was the first one to fly to Mars!

Someone I respect: My parents, my coaches, and all my teachers, especially Mr. Hashimoto.

Someone famous I’d like to meet: Randy “The Big Unit” Johnson. He has been my favorite baseball player since the sandbox and he is the best lefty-pitcher to ever live. And I’d like to meet Tupac if he is still alive.

Someday, looking back on my life, I’d like to say: I always gave it my all in everything I did. There are no moments where I second-guess myself and ask “what if I had tried a little harder or what if I focused just a tad bit more,” and that I lived to my full potential each day.

Biggest challenge facing teenagers today: Just being content with being the “average Joe” and not reaching for their dreams and goals. A lot of kids seem to be afraid of “failure,” which is why they never-ever try.

One thing in the world I would change if I could: College wouldn’t be extremely expensive so all kids would have an opportunity to excel their education if they wanted to, and money wouldn’t be an issue.

Where do I see myself in 10 years: In a mansion and living in Hawaii, doing big things with my life.
