Man given 21 months for assault at party

A Rochester man convicted of second-degree assault in July after beating up a man at a party was sentenced Friday to 21 months in prison, according to The Chronicle of Centralia.

Because Daniel Andrew Michael Ward, 20, used a deadly weapon, Lewis County Superior Court Judge James Lawler gave him an enhanced sentence of 21 months, rather than the nine- to 12-month standard range for the crime.

Ward’s juvenile relative was also convicted and sentenced in the case.

Ward was arrested again late last month, suspected of an unrelated assault at a party. He faces one count of second-degree assault and one of fourth-degree assault after he allegedly attacked two boys outside Rochester, according to court documents.

An 18-year-old victim alleged the attack began when he asked Ward for a cigarette, according to the documents. Ward allegedly punched him in the mouth, face and left eye. The victim also received cuts to his elbows from being pushed down, according to the documents.

Ward also appeared in Lewis County District Court on suspicion of fourth-degree assault and possessing alcohol as a minor. Both of these alleged crimes, prosecutors said, occurred after Ward had made his preliminary appearance for the original assault in February.
