OLYMPIA - More than 500 licensed practical nurses, service and technical workers at Providence St. Peter Hospital, represented by the Service Employees International Union, have scheduled a one-day strike for Oct. 15, according to a news release from SEIU Healthcare, Local 1199NW.
The strike will take place from 6 a.m. to 11:59 p.m., the news release states.
The SEIU says the workers are striking to highlight “takeaways to medical and retirement benefits and below standard wage increases.” The hospital’s health care workers have been negotiating a new contract since the last contract expired on June 30, according to the news release.
“(Providence St. Peter) hospital has provided proposals during negotiations that are competitive and consistent with what is paid at other hospitals in our area,” the hospital said in a statement.
