The NFL has warned players to cut out the trash talk, specifically when it threatens other players.
“Ray Anderson reminded players that comments of a physically threatening nature are always taken into account in evaluating discipline for any illegal physical contact on the field,” league spokesman Greg Aiello said Saturday.
NFL executive vice president of football operations Anderson is the league’s chief disciplinarian. He told teams, including all eight remaining in the playoffs, to basically watch it.
EAGLES FIRE COACH
Never miss a local story.
The Philadelphia Eagles have fired defensive coordinator Sean McDermott.
The Eagles allowed 377 points this season, the most since 1974.
McDermott replaced Jim Johnson after the assistant died of cancer in 2009.
The Eagles won the NFC East with a 10-6 record before losing to the Green Bay Packers, 21-16, in a first-round playoff game last week.
Pittsburgh defensive end Brett Keisel has been added to the AFC Pro Bowl team, the first time he was selected during his nine NFL seasons. Keisel replaces Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney. Georgia outside linebacker Justin Houston, who ranked second in the Southeastern Conference with 10 sacks, is skipping his senior year to enter the NFL draft.
