2010 record/finish: 94-68, first place, lost in first round
Manager: Ron Gardenhire (10th season)
Key additions: SS Tsuyoshi Nishioka, LHP Dusty Hughes
Key losses: SS J.J. Hardy, 2B Orlando Hudson, IF Nick Punto, RHP Jesse Crain
Outlook: Another season, another loss to the Yankees in the playoffs. Yet the Twins head into 2011 optimistic. They will have a solid team that plays good defense, hits situationally and wins games. They still don’t have a frontline starting pitcher and depth in the rotation, and they will have unproven players at shortstop and second base. The return of closer Joe Nathan should help.
Player to watch: 1B Justin Morneau. The 2006 AL MVP sat out the second half of last season because of a severe concussion. He’s finally back playing again, but will he be the type of player he once was?
Will win the Central if ... they play the way they always do – fundamentally solid, and Morneau and Nathan play somewhere near their old form.
