2010 record/finish: 89-73, third place
Manager: Terry Francona (eighth season)
Key additions: 1B Adrian Gonzalez, LF Carl Crawford, RHP Bobby Jenks, RHP Dan Wheeler
Key losses: 3B Adrian Beltre, C Victor Martinez, 3B Mike Lowell
Outlook: After not making the playoffs, the Red Sox made headlines in the offseason by bringing in two of the top offensive players in baseball in Gonzalez and Crawford. With Kevin Youkilis, Jacoby Ellsbury and Dustin Pedroia healthy, the Sox might have the most potent lineup in baseball. The pitching staff remains intact, led by Jon Lester and Josh Beckett.
Player to watch: C Jarrod Saltalamacchia. The former top prospect will get a chance to catch every day. His issues of throwing back to the pitcher seem to be resolved.
Will win the EAST if ... they can stay healthy. It sounds simple, but last year was evidence of how injuries can derail a season.
