2010 record/finish: 83-79, third place
Manager: Jim Tracy (third season)
Key additions: RHP Matt Lindstrom, IF Ty Wigginton, 2B Jose Lopez
Key losses: C Miguel Olivo, 2B Clint Barmes, LHP Jeff Francis
Outlook: For the second straight year, the Rockies made a huge late-season push to try to reach the playoffs. but they fell short. That shouldn’t happen in 2011. They have two MVP candidates in Troy Tulowitzki and Carlos Gonzalez – two of the most feared hitters in the NL. The Rockies also have a solid rotation led by Ubaldo Jimenez and hard-throwing lefty Jorge De La Rosa.
Player to watch: RHP Jhoulys Chacin, who has fantastic stuff and is at times unhittable. But he can be erratic and will fall behind in counts and walk hitters.
Will win the west if ... they simply get off to a decent start. That way they don’t have to make up so many games late in the season.
