2010 record/finish: 79-83, fourth place
Manager: Terry Collins (first season)
Key additions: RHP Chris Young, LHP Chris Capuano, OF Scott Hairston
Key losses: LHP Oliver Perez, RHP John Maine, 2B Luis Castillo
Outlook: Last year was a disaster for the Mets. They were awful on the field in nearly every aspect. Hitting? Bad. Fielding? Terrible. Pitching? Horrid. And there is nothing to say it won’t be the case this season. Jason Bay was a bust as a free agent signee and Carlos Beltran wasn’t the same player when he came back from knee injuries. The Mets have a handful of good, but aging players, and not much depth.
Player to watch: SS Jose Reyes. He has ridiculous talent when he’s healthy, but that hasn’t been often. This is a contract year and Mets have to decide whether to give him a long-term deal, let him walk or trade him.
Will win the east if … they can get a time machine and go back to 1985.
