The New York Yankees have put outfielder Curtis Granderson on the 15-day disabled list with a broken knuckle on his left pinky finger and recalled outfielder Brennan Boesch from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
The moves were made before Saturday’s game at Tampa Bay.
Granderson was hit by a ptich from Cesar Ramos in the fifth inning of Friday night’s 9-4 win over the Rays.
The Brewers placed closer Jim Henderson on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring following their 5-2 loss to the Pirates on Saturday.
Henderson was injured while delivering a pitch in the ninth inning against the Pittsburgh on Friday, giving way to Francisco Rodriguez, who earned a save in the Brewers’ 2-1 win.
Henderson has not allowed a run over 62/3 innings in his past seven outings. He has nine saves and a 0.92 ERA.
The Twins called up right-hander P.J. Walters from Triple-A Rochester to start against the Tigers. Walters got his first win of the season in Minnesota’s 3-2 victory over Detroit.
The Orioles placed right-hander Pedro Strop on the 15-day disabled list with a strained lower back and recalled right-hander Steve Johnson from Triple-A Norfolk before Saturday’s game against the Blue Jays. … The Nationals called up utility man Jeff Kobernus from Triple-A Syracuse and designated right-hander Yunesky Maya for assignment. The team wanted to put an extra body on the bench while second baseman Danny Espinosa takes a few days off because of a broken right wrist. … The Rangers acquired outfielder Joe Benson on waivers from the Twins, and optioned him to Double-A Frisco. Texas made room for Benson on its 40-man roster by transferring Matt Harrison, its opening-day starter ,from the 15-day to the 60-day DL. … Twins center fielder Wilkin Ramirez left the game against the Tigers on Saturday after he collided with left fielder Josh Willingham chasing a fly ball. Ramirez struggled to get up, but his condition was unknown. … Cardinals starter John Gast left Saturday’s game against the Dodgers with tightness in his left shoulder.
